When James first stepped in front of my camera back in 2022 for headshots, I thought I was simply photographing another client. Whenever I work with a client for headshots or any type of brand photos, I want to get to know them so I can best help showcase who they are through the photos, and how to authentically share their story through my work. "We have seen firsthand how those in Statesville seats of power use their influence to create public policy which benefits the few at the expense of the many." -This was taken from a quote made by Pressly during that 2022 session in reference to running for city council then. The more I listened to James discuss his vision for Statesville combined with his passion for community and people, it became clear that he wasn't chasing politics, he's pursuing purpose. Now, 3 years later he not only has stood by the words he speaks but is working hard to show up for the people of Statesville. And in today’s political climate, that’s exactly what makes him different.
James is a fourth-generation Statesville native whose family has shaped this community for well over a century. His great-grandfather moved here in 1892 as a Presbyterian minister and served First ARP Church for more than 50 years. His grandfather, after serving as a combat medic in World War II, returned home to practice family medicine for five decades. His father followed the same spirit of service, first in real estate and later as a member of City Council and as Mayor in the 1980s.
Today, James carries that legacy forward. He and his wife Jessie are preparing to welcome their first child, a baby boy who will be the fifth generation of the Pressly family to call Statesville home. For James, this isn’t just where he lives, it’s where he’s building his family’s future.
James often says that local government should focus on what matters most to families: safe streets, smart spending, and a stronger tomorrow.
For him, “Safe Streets” means making sure police and fire departments have the staffing, training, and resources they need, while also tackling the everyday concerns like well-maintained roads. “Smart Spending” reflects his belief in keeping taxes low, cutting wasteful policies, and prioritizing the basics like utilities, garbage collection, and infrastructure. And “Stronger Tomorrow” is about embracing smart growth, attracting higher-paying jobs, and ensuring that development strengthens rather than strains the city.
James loves Statesville. He believes Statesville doesn’t need to reinvent itself but instead lean into what makes it special: small-town charm, strong families, and a community spirit that has always set it apart. With its prime location, manufacturing base, and proximity to Charlotte, Statesville has limitless potential. What’s needed now is leadership that honors its history while preparing for the opportunities of the future.
James brings something rare to the table: a blend of heritage, heart, and hands-on experience. As a business owner, he understands what it takes to balance budgets, make tough decisions, and keep operations running efficiently. As a neighbor and native son, he understands the challenges families face, whether it’s the state of our roads, the rising cost of utilities, or the need for safer neighborhoods. And as someone deeply rooted in Statesville, he’s committed to making sure our city thrives for generations to come.
James is running At-Large, which means if you live anywhere within the Statesville city limits, you can vote for him.
Early Voting begins October 16 at the Iredell County Board of Elections, 203 Stockton St, Statesville, NC.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.

Photographing James’s grand opening & campaign kickoff was about more than capturing portraits, it was about documenting the beginning of a new chapter for Statesville. Through my lens, I saw a man who isn’t running to play politics, but to serve with common sense, a steady hand, and a heart for his hometown.
And that, to me, is the kind of leader worth photographing and worth voting for.
